WEEK 4

This week we had bring to class our Christmas project. So first of all, we had a lecture about Stop Motion with puppets, where watched many examples of fantastic films that were made with this technique.
From that lecture I learnt that the puppets that we will create are going to be unique, so we have to make them as original as possible, take risks with it and be creative. Also, that the setting and objects that the puppet interacts with it are very important, and some of them should play the role of an emblem for the protagonist.
After that we went through the brief and had a break.
We also had the opportunity to listen to Lizzy Hobbs' talk. I was very revealing to see her work and such unique techniques she uses. It made me think about the way of how i approach my work and projects, and that I should try to experiment more and not stick to one material or method.
Later on we did a workshop in the 3D work space. We learnt how to use the machinery and the safety rules.
It's a place where I am definitely going to come back to work and explore new material, as well with the annex.
Finally, we started the character development from the work that we did during the holiday break.
I personally decided to make my character based on my nephews personality and maybe some of his features but with a lion's form.
His favourite animal is the lion and he sometimes pretends to be one.
I sketched a few options of what would he look like. Maybe lion face but human body? or a whole lion but that behaves like a human?
I definitely need to do more research and keep coming up with new ideas.
The challenges that I finding with this projects are mainly that I feel that when I am going to create something, I kind of go for the realistic believable type of look, so when I try to create something different or more crazy I get stuck. I feel I need to free me from myself and work on that.
I am quite excited to start this but it seems that it's going to be a lot of work.

Here are some of the sketches of my nephew and the ideas that I tried today at class about the "lion" puppet.
