CHRISTMAS PROJECT
We were asked for this project, to choose a relevant person from your hometown, could be someone famous or from your family, to do a study on them.
I chose my nephew Roy. He is brother's son and in June he will be 3 years old.
I picked him as my inspiration, because of his personality and look. Even though he is still very young,
He has a lot of character and is very funny. He is also very expressive and although he can't speak much, he makes himself perfectly understood using random words in his own language and many gestures.
He is very clear about what he likes and what he doesn't like. He loves soup and pasta, his dog Lana, rolling in the sand and playing with his sister. He hates having his picture taken and carrots.
But his favourite things are lions and tigers. And also bears and wolves, basically any animals that roar.
Sometimes he gets on all fours and starts roaring at whoever is around him. He is not an aggressive child, but he will do whatever it takes to make a good representation of his character, even if that includes scratching or biting. His older sister Erea, who is 5 years old, does not like this game very much, as she usually ends up being the prey of this ferocious lion.
Despite these squabbles, they get on very well with each other. The crying and tantrums quickly change to laughter and vice versa as they play. They are the perfect play couple and protect each other from everything.
Roy enjoys going to school and socialising with his classmates.
He enjoys doing the activities set there and participates in all of them.
At home he is also a very active boy. He is on the move all day long like a little hurricane and when he enters he stirs everything up. Generally, after turning the house upside down he helps you to pick up the messy things, but he is quite stubborn, and tidying up is not his favourite game.
This Christmas I spent a few days with him and we played a lot.
We took short walks in the woods, went to see the Christmas lights in the city centre and went to the beach, where he rolled in the sand and played at running away from the waves.
Many of the drawings I made of him are from photographs as there is hardly a minute when he is still. In the moments when he was quieter; watching TV or sleeping, I managed to do some sketches on the spot.
I tried to capture his personality and what he likes to do in the drawings. This Christmas he was quite grumpy because we couldn't do many things out of the house because of Covid, that's why many of the drawings are of him sulking.
He is a super special boy, clever and witty and I think he would be perfect for this task.
Here are some pictures of him
